Ogbeni Rotimi Oyekanmi

Ogbeni Rotimi Oyekanmi hails originally from Ago-Oko in the beautiful city of Abeokuta, Ogun State. I was born in Minna, Niger State, where I began my early primary education. In 1972, I proceeded to Ogbomosho Grammar School for my secondary education. However, I had to transfer a year later at the request of my elder sister, who resided in Kainji, Kwara State, and wanted mecloser to her. Afamily friend, Alhaji Omoluabi from Offa, helped identify a new school for me. His search led to the recommendation of Igbomina Secondary Grammar School—also known as Ajasse-Ipo Comprehensive High School—which eventually became my beloved alma mater.

Upon graduating from secondary school, I pursued higher education and obtained a degree in Applied Chemistry as well as an MBA in Marketing from the University of Calabar. I then worked extensively in the vegetable oil industry for over a decade, including at Ferdinand Oil Mills in Imo State and Vegetable Oil Mills in Ojota, Lagos.

Following this, I founded Rhothyme Consultants, a consultancy firm dedicated to supporting local vegetable farmers in and around the Lagos area. In the early 2000s, I relocated to the United States of America, where I enrolled at the prestigious University of Maryland University College (UMUC) to study Biotechnology. I earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Biotechnology Management from the institution. Currently, I work in the biopharmaceutical industry in the U.S., providing services as a Quality Assurance (QA) contractor.

I am happily married to the love of my life, Olori Temitayo Abosede Oyekanmi, and we are blessed with four wonderful children. Onthe political scene, I served as Chairman of Nigeria For Change, an advocacy group that campaigned for a change of government during President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. I currently serve as Vice-President of the Egba-Yewa Descendants Association, Washington, D.C. In 2020, I was elected Chairman of the Yoruba Alliance, Washington DC Metro, after previously serving honorably as Secretary-General under two successive administrations. Most recently, on April 19, 2025, at the 49th AGM held in Osogbo, Osun State, I was elected President of the ACHSOSA Class of ’76.

To God be the glory! I amanavid lover of table tennis and enjoy traveling and making new friends. If there’s one thing I would like to be remembered for, it is bringing people together. As an old Chinese proverb says, “Behind every able man, there are always other able men.” Likewise, behind every able woman, there are others who support her. Nobody is a whole team—we need eachother. You need someone, and someone needs you. One is too small a number to achieve greatness. Great Class of ‘76, let us continue the good work we have started.

Let us stay focused and avoid all forms of distraction. Instead of complaining about what you cannot change, change what you can. Together, we can build stronger bonds and a lasting legacy.
